Welcome to my website, the place for:
- Updates on my work, including Children of the Salt Road, a mysterious, atmospheric novel set in Sicily
- My blog, featuring random thoughts, photos, writings and fun extras.
- Becoming Italian, the story of my nearly-complete attempt to obtain recognition of my dual Italian and American citizenship
My interest in tracing my roots started decades ago. That process–finding people, tracking down documents and learning what it really must have meant to be an immigrant to the US in the early 1900s–has changed the way I look at what it means to be American. It sounds trite, but it’s true. I have a fresh, new appreciation for the debt we owe to the immigrants who came here–from so many countries, and for so many reasons–to build new lives. Of course, those of us descended from folks who packed up and traveled to the United States owe our very existence to those brave men and women. But the whole country owes them a debt as well. As people continue to come here, bringing their culture, food, language and experience, they enrich us as a nation. It’s what makes us the incredible, resilient, tossed-salad-of-a-country that we are.
